Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax  levied in India on the supply of goods and services. The GST was launched at midnight on 1 July 2017 by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, and the Government of India. 

     GST is the biggest indirect tax reform of India. GST is a single tax on the supply of goods and services.  GST has replaced taxes like Central Excise Law, Service Tax Law, VAT, Entry Tax, etc. GST is one of the biggest indirect tax reforms in the country. The tax came into effect from July 1, 2017 through the implementation of One Hundred and First Amendment of the Constitution of India by the Indian government.
           
      There are around 160 countries in the world that have GST in place. GST is a destination based taxed where the tax is collected by the State where goods are consumed.The GST is imposed at variable rates on variable items. Goods and services are divided into five tax slabs for collection of tax - 0%, 5%, 12%,18% and 28%
